Yakima

Yakima is an agricultural town with nearly a quarter million inhabitants in the area encompassing the incorporated city.  I’ve always know it as a hops growing powerhouse; the hops fields are evident all around outside the city itself.  In the more recent past its become a wine region with a true following.  The Yakima Valley could now be called an appelation.  The region still has a very strong agricultural aspect in all ways.

Outside the city and developed lands is a large reservation that is the land seat of the Yakima Nation, the remnants of from a vast tribal network that extended up and down the eastern slopes of the Cascades and east across the plains.  I don’t think there is anything that can be said about the horrific treatment those people suffered as they were relocated to the reservation after some murderously hard handling.
